Commercial Arts 4th Block Projects

Project | Etching's- My Etching was of a picture I took of from E bay towards the North Parking Lot at Bettendorf High School. I took the picture because I noticed all the different shades and lighting that really made the scene pop. The etchings that I printed had many different levels of cross-hatching to create multiple levels of shading which then painted the same picture that I took. I really enjoyed this project because it challenged me to think and create depth within my work.
Project | Linocut Self-Portrait- I created a self-portrait by carving and creating  depth in my piece. This project was very interesting because it forced myself to fill in empty space with patterns and create something that will compliment the rest of the portrait without distracting. The idea of carving white space instead of the black spaces was a struggle for myself, because it made me think in reverse and forced me to rethink about how I would accomplish my task.

Project | Zine- Using patterns to simulate texture was a very odd concept that I was not used to. The requirements of thinking up 30 different patterns was a hard task and made certain points throughout the creation of the book very difficult. Also, using a pen forced accuracy and made sure that I had to be precise with every mark I made on my booklet. I didn't enjoy this project as much as I thought I would in the beginning. After a few days into the zine booklet I realized that I was over my head and was then forced to cut back on some of my ideas to fit into a timeline.
